Week 8 delivers a stellar lineup of NFL action for Australian fans, with seven televised games across Monday and Tuesday. Baltimore heads to Buffalo for a heavyweight AFC showdown, unbeaten Minnesota faces a huge divisional test in Detroit, and Kansas City travels to Denver looking to bounce back from its first defeat. Throw in a battle for Los Angeles and a epic Monday night clash between Chicago and Seattle, and there's plenty to get excited about.

We've examined the form, injuries and key match-ups to identify the strongest betting opportunities, with several underdogs looking capable of upsetting the favourites.

All dates and start times are in Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).

Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills

Monday, 2 November | 5:00 am AEDT | TV: ESPN, Kayo, Disney+, NFL Game Pass | See the market

This could be one of the highest-scoring games of the round, with two of the NFL's most dangerous quarterbacks going head-to-head.

Buffalo enters at 5-1 and fresh from a bye, with Josh Allen leading an offence averaging an impressive 32.8 points per game. The Bills have also won 11 consecutive games immediately following a bye, making them a formidable proposition with extra preparation.

Baltimore sits 4-3 and is expecting Lamar Jackson to return after missing three games with an ankle injury. His fitness will be crucial, particularly against a Buffalo defence ranked 30th in points conceded and 31st in total yards allowed.

The Ravens have the attacking weapons to exploit those weaknesses, but Jackson's mobility remains a question after his layoff. Buffalo's offence should create plenty of scoring opportunities regardless.

Both teams have explosive quarterbacks and defensive vulnerabilities. If Jackson is close to full fitness, this has all the ingredients for a shootout.

Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions

Monday, 2 November | 5:00 am AEDT | TV: 7mate, NFL Game Pass | See the market

The unbeaten Vikings face a massive NFC North examination against a Detroit side desperate to close the gap at the top of the division.

Minnesota is 6-0, largely thanks to an extraordinary defensive system under Brian Flores. The Vikings blitz on more than 70% of opposing passing plays, comfortably the highest rate in the NFL. Last week, they pressured Daniel Jones relentlessly in a 16-10 victory over Indianapolis.

But Jared Goff is one quarterback capable of punishing that aggression. His ability to read defensive movements before the snap and deliver the football quickly could be decisive.

Detroit also has the attacking weapons to make Minnesota pay when extra defenders rush the passer. The Lions have home-field advantage, but the Vikings have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to win close contests.

The Vikings are unbeaten for a reason, and their aggressive defence should keep Detroit under pressure. Getting more than a field goal appeals in what shapes as a tight divisional battle.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Los Angeles Rams

Monday, 2 November | 8:05 am AEDT | TV: 7mate, NFL Game Pass | See the market

The battle for Los Angeles brings together two teams that have struggled to produce four consistent quarters of football.

The Chargers remain the NFL's only winless team at 0-6, averaging just 15 points per game. Justin Herbert has been operating behind a battered offensive line, while the defence has taken a significant step backwards this season.

The Rams are 3-4 and have been equally frustrating. Matthew Stafford has enough attacking weapons to trouble any defence, but Los Angeles has repeatedly allowed opponents back into games after establishing promising positions.

The Chargers are coming off a bye and have had additional time to address their problems. They've also been competitive against several strong opponents, suggesting their record doesn't tell the complete story.

The Rams should win, but their inconsistency makes a comfortable victory far from certain.

The Chargers have been competitive in several defeats and should benefit from the extra preparation. The Rams haven't shown enough consistency to make giving away almost a touchdown particularly attractive.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos

Monday, 2 November | 8:25 am AEDT | TV: ESPN, Kayo, Disney+, NFL Game Pass | See the market

A fascinating AFC West showdown between two teams with genuine playoff ambitions.

Kansas City sits 5-1 but arrives after a humbling 20-3 defeat to Seattle, where its previously dominant rushing attack was completely shut down.

Kenneth Walker III managed just 36 rushing yards against his former team after terrorising Denver for 173 yards in their opening-round meeting. The Broncos will be determined to avoid a repeat, particularly after missing an extraordinary 28 tackles in that first encounter.

Denver has won three consecutive games and is beginning to find some attacking rhythm. Its defence has also improved against the run, while the return of Jonathon Cooper provides another important presence on the edge.

Patrick Mahomes remains the biggest individual threat, but Denver's home-field advantage and improving defence make this a difficult assignment.

The Broncos are playing better football, and Kansas City's offensive line remains vulnerable. Denver has a genuine chance of winning outright in a contest that should be decided by very little.

New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins

Monday, 2 November | 8:25 am AEDT | TV: ESPN2, Kayo, Disney+, NFL Game Pass | See the market

New England heads to Miami looking to strengthen its position in the AFC East, but history suggests this isn't always a straightforward road trip.

The Patriots are 4-3, with Drake Maye recovering impressively from a difficult start to the season. His improved decision-making has given New England a more reliable passing attack, while Mike Vrabel's side has demonstrated an ability to win important games away from home.

Miami finally broke through for its first victory of the season last week, but the Dolphins remain 1-5 and have struggled to sustain offensive pressure.

The Patriots have the stronger overall roster and should create opportunities against Miami's defence. However, divisional games in South Florida have a habit of becoming uncomfortable for visiting New England teams.

Miami's breakthrough victory was encouraging, but New England has the stronger quarterback form and more reliable defence. The Patriots should be capable of establishing control and winning by at least a touchdown.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Commanders

Monday, 2 November | 12:20 pm AEDT | TV: ESPN, Kayo, Disney+, NFL Game Pass | See the market

Two struggling NFC East rivals meet in a game that could have major consequences for both seasons.

Philadelphia has lost five consecutive games after opening the season 2-0. The Eagles' offence has been particularly disappointing, with the team producing 745 fewer yards than its opponents across the opening seven games.

Washington hasn't been much better, sitting 1-4-1, but Jayden Daniels continues to provide moments of individual brilliance. His ability to create plays through the air and on the ground makes the Commanders dangerous against an Eagles defence that has been steadily deteriorating.

Washington also enjoys a significant preparation advantage. The Commanders are coming off a bye, while Philadelphia has a short turnaround following its heavy defeat to Dallas.

The Eagles have enough talent to remain competitive, but their current form makes them difficult to support.

The Commanders have the preparation advantage, the more dangerous quarterback and a favourable match-up against an Eagles side badly lacking confidence.

Chicago Bears @ Seattle Seahawks

Tuesday, 3 November | 12:15 pm AEDT | TV: ESPN, Kayo, Disney+, NFL Game Pass | See the market

Week 8 finishes with a beauty as two NFC playoff contenders meet in Seattle.

Chicago is 5-2 and has been producing some outstanding attacking football since Caleb Williams returned from injury. The Bears' offence is becoming increasingly dangerous, although their defence remains vulnerable to explosive plays, allowing a league-worst 6.3 yards per play.

That presents a major opportunity for Seattle, particularly through Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has the ability to stretch Chicago's secondary.

The Seahawks are 4-3 and arrive with confidence after holding Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City without a touchdown last week. Their defence has rediscovered its physical edge, while Sam Darnold will be looking to avoid costly turnovers against an opportunistic Bears unit.

This shapes as an extremely close contest, with Chicago's improving offence capable of keeping Seattle under pressure throughout.

The Bears have the attacking weapons to challenge Seattle, and getting more than a field goal appeals in a contest that could go down to the final possession.

The Week 8 best bet set

  • Baltimore Ravens v Buffalo Bills – Over 54.5 Points
  • Minnesota Vikings +3.5
  • Los Angeles Chargers +6.5
  • Denver Broncos +1.5
  • Chicago Bears +3.5

The standout betting angles this week centre on competitive underdogs. Minnesota's unbeaten record makes the Vikings particularly appealing with a start against Detroit, while Denver looks capable of upsetting Kansas City at home. Baltimore and Buffalo could provide the highest-scoring contest of the round, with two explosive offences capable of putting on a show.
