Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 July 2026

This policy explains what information The Daily Punt collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We've written it in plain English rather than legalese, and kept it honest about how little we actually hold.

1.Who this covers

“We”, “us” and “our” means The Daily Punt, the operator of thedailypunt.com.au. This policy covers this website and the email updates we send. It does not cover bookmakers or other sites you reach by following a link from here — they have their own policies, and once you leave our site you are in their hands.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we send email in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

2.What we collect

  • Email updates. If you subscribe, we store your email address, the name you give us if you provide one, any topic preferences you select, and which form you signed up through. That is the only personal information we ask you for anywhere on the site.
  • Messages you send us. If you email us, we hold that message and your address so we can reply.
  • Aggregate page counts. We count how many times each article and page is read, as a daily total per page. No identifier of any kind is attached — the record is literally a page name, a date and a number.
  • Aggregate link clicks. When someone follows a link to a bookmaker we record which bookmaker and which part of the page it came from. Again, a name and a placement, with nothing identifying attached.
  • Visitor statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which reports visitor numbers, page views, referring sites, countries and device types in aggregate. It is cookieless and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and to keep the service running. We don’t use those logs to identify or profile readers.

3.What we don't do

  • We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. Ever.
  • We don’t set advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t run third-party ad networks or retargeting pixels.
  • We don’t build individual reading profiles. Our page and click counts are totals, so we genuinely cannot tell you which articles any particular person read.
  • We don’t ask for and never hold payment details, betting account credentials or identity documents. If any page ever asks you for those, it isn’t us.

4.Cookies

The site sets one cookie, and only for us: a login session cookie for the admin area. If you are simply reading the site, no cookie is set by us at all.

Some embedded content can set its own cookies if you interact with it — for example a YouTube video or an embedded post from X. We load YouTube through its no-cookie domain to reduce this. Anything you click through to is governed by that provider’s policy.

5.How we use your email address

To send you the updates you asked for, and to reply if you contact us. Nothing else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately — you don’t need to give a reason.

6.Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the site, and they only ever handle information as needed to provide that service:

  • Vercel — hosting, delivery and visitor statistics.
  • Neon — the database that stores the email list and the aggregate counts.
  • BetBunker— supplies the racing and sports data we publish. We don’t send them your personal information.

Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. By subscribing you consent to that overseas handling. We may also disclose information where we are required to by law.

7.Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that’s wrong;
  • delete your details entirely.

Email support@thedailypunt.com.au and we’ll action it. In practice, deleting your subscription removes essentially everything we hold about you, because the rest of what we collect isn’t linked to you in the first place.

8.Security and retention

Data is held with the reputable providers listed above, and the admin area is password-protected. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee information sent over the internet is completely safe. We keep subscriber details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them; aggregate counts are kept indefinitely because they contain nothing personal.

9.Under 18s

This site is for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18 and we don’t knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has subscribed, email us and we’ll remove the record.

10.Changes and complaints

If we change this policy we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, email support@thedailypunt.com.au and we’ll respond. If you’re still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
