Nationals Night at Sandown: a $67 shot in the National Sprint

The best greyhounds in the country have descended on Sandown Park for a huge night of racing, headlined by the Group 1 National Sprint and Distance Championships.

We take a quick look at both feature races before revealing the Wolfden community's Best Bet Set for Saturday night.

Sandown R6 — National Distance Final · 715m · 8:17pm

The National Distance brings together an outstanding field of stayers, with Miss Envy (2) looking to add another remarkable chapter to her career.

The WA star won the National Sprint in 2024 and now gets her chance to claim the Distance crown two years later. From box two, she should be prominent early and looks the one they have to beat.

Magpie Hector (1) is arguably the benchmark stayer in the country and is unbeaten from the inside draw, while Mepunga Lara (5) is proven at this level and commands respect.

Boom Bam Ranger (6) impressed in a recent Sandown trial and Beautiful Child (3) is another with plenty of upside in a cracking edition of the National Distance.

Sandown R8 — National Sprint Final · 515m · 8:56pm

The National Sprint was given a late shake-up when boom Victorian youngster Wrongly Accused (3) gained a start following the scratching of Utter Madness.

Off The Chart (1) has the speed to take advantage of the rails draw and could take plenty of catching if he finds the front.

Winsome Jet (2) produced a blistering 29.18 Sandown trial leading into the final and should get every opportunity tucked behind the early speed.

Storm Hustler (5) brings elite form into the race, while Jungle Johnny (7) is at a decent price and should never be underestimated.
