Saturday Features & Market Movers: Platinum Pearl plunges from $13 into $8.50

A huge weekend of spring racing is headlined by the Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday before attention turns to Caulfield on Sunday for the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and a stacked support card. We take a quick look at the key feature races, the major runners and where the early markets have been moving.

Blue Door brings the strongest exposed form after chasing home Golden Rose contender Guest House in a fast-run San Domenico over this track and trip. She has now finished runner-up in both starts this preparation. Unbeaten colt Omolong returns after winning his first two starts at 1100m, while Half Pipe also comes through the San Domenico and has trialled since. Ciaron's Star resumes after showing stakes-class ability in her first campaign.

Lazzura hit the line strongly for third in the Sheraco first-up and has an outstanding second-up record, including her Coolmore Classic victory last preparation. Gangsta Granny improved sharply when runner-up in the same race and should again be prominent. Apocalyptic steps to 1400m after two runs back, while Verona Rose resumed with an encouraging third and Surfin' Bird returns after finishing last preparation with a win.

Golden Slipper winner Guest House made an emphatic return in the San Domenico and now stretches to 1400m for the first time. St Gotthard has attracted plenty of attention after returning with a strong second and brings an unbeaten Rosehill record into the race. Warwoven arrives off a last-start win, while the likes of Tron Bolt, Under Focus and the Waller contingent give the race plenty of depth.

Skyhook returned in outstanding fashion to win the Theo Marks over 1300m and again draws to enjoy a favourable run. Magnatear was strong behind him first-up and has a record of improving second-up, while Private Eye comes back to Rosehill after contesting stronger company. Kovalica rises to 1500m second-up and Punch Lane continues a consistent preparation, adding further depth to an intriguing Shannon.

Platinum Pearl remains lightly raced and has also attracted early market interest.

An open staying contest with Suntora building nicely through two runs back and looking ready for 2000m. See That Storm returns to firmer ground after struggling on soft going last start, having won strongly at Flemington prior. Darkbonee can rebound after disappointing as favourite at Caulfield, while Future History and the consistent Detonator Jack bring plenty of proven staying form into the race.

Over The Bridge takes a significant class rise after an impressive Bendigo debut where she produced outstanding late sectionals and won with plenty in hand. Chayan has the established juvenile form, having won the Reisling before contesting the Golden Slipper, and can improve from her wide first-up run. Scintillation has been racing consistently in stakes company, while Jadzia and Sunbliss are lightly raced fillies with upside.

Pride Of Jenni returns chasing a third straight Feehan after winning the race at Moonee Valley in each of the past two years. She has reportedly been sharp in her jumpouts and her established front-running style again shapes the race. Mr Brightside and Treasurethe Moment are both looking to rebound from below-par Makybe Diva Stakes performances, while Another Wil was much better in that race and arrives here on the improve.

Several key runners come through the tightly contested Exford Plate, where Lara Antipova beat the boys despite carrying a penalty. Diameter endured a luckless passage in that race and should appreciate getting back to 1600m, while Somethings Burnin' and Obambulate were also close enough to warrant respect. Cignetti comes through a different form line after having little luck at Sandown and may be ridden more positively stepping to the mile.

Changing Colours steps into Group company after stringing together three impressive wins and drops sharply in weight for the rise in grade. Too Darn Discreet was excellent first-up in the Let's Elope and should appreciate getting to 1600m. Sass Appeal comes back to mares grade after a solid effort against the boys and looks ready for the mile, while the race shape could prove important with several key chances likely to settle off the speed.

Beiwacht drops back to 1200m after a dominant all-the-way Memsie Stakes victory and brings the highest-level recent form into the race. Giga Kick should be better suited stepping up from the 1000m Moir, with his Group 1 record at 1200m well established. Extragalactic produced a big first-up run in the Moir and now gets James McDonald, while Oliveanotherday returns around a bend after disappointing down the Flemington straight.

Harry's Yacht should appreciate a strong tempo after a solid return over 1100m and has an excellent record around this distance. Buccleuch continues to progress after winning both starts this preparation and should be strong late, while War Machine drops back into Listed company after tackling stronger races. Royal Insignia and Athanatos add further depth to a competitive finale.
