Spring stars hit Caulfield ahead of Memsie Day

Some of Australian racing's leading spring contenders stretched their legs on the Caulfield course proper on Tuesday morning, headlined by Pride Of Jenni, Angel Capital and Birdman.

The Melbourne Racing Club has published footage of all the morning's gallops, which can be viewed here.

Pride Of Jenni builds towards Feehan return

Pride Of Jenni continues to build towards her spring return, with the popular mare expected to kick off her campaign by attempting to defend her Group 2 Feehan Stakes crown.

The Feehan will be run at Caulfield on Manikato Stakes Day, Sunday September 27, with the nine-year-old aiming for a remarkable third consecutive victory in the race.

Waller unleashes five-pronged Memsie attack

Champion trainer Chris Waller has confirmed a powerful team of five for Saturday's star-studded Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Angel Capital heads the quintet after finishing third first-up in the Group 2 Missile Stakes and will have a fitness advantage over stablemates Autumn Boy, Beiwacht, Birdman and Buckaroo.

"Angel Capital has had the benefit of the run in Sydney so he goes into the Memsie second-up," Waller said.

Kiwi star Well Written on Epsom-Golden Eagle path

Exciting New Zealand mare Well Written is set to begin a campaign that could ultimately bring her across the Tasman for two of Sydney's biggest spring races.

Trainer Stephen Marsh will resume Well Written in next Saturday's Group 1 Proisir Plate (1400m) at Ellerslie, where she is currently favourite.

A victory would put an Australian trip firmly on the agenda, with Marsh eyeing the Group 1 Epsom Handicap before progressing to the $10 million Golden Eagle.

Messara: Autumn Glow the best I've owned

Arrowfield Stud supremo John Messara has declared superstar mare Autumn Glow the best horse he has raced following her sensational first-up victory in Saturday's Group 1 Winx Stakes.

It's an enormous compliment given Messara's long association with champion Miss Finland, who won five Group 1s including the Golden Slipper, Thousand Guineas, VRC Oaks and Australian Guineas.

Autumn Glow has now won 12 of her 13 starts, including the Epsom Handicap, George Ryder Stakes and Winx Stakes at Group 1 level.

I think she's something very special. I think she's world-class, I really do. I think she's probably the best horse we've ever raced in that time slot of the last 40 or 50 years.

Berry picks up Pembrey ride

Queensland star Pembrey will have a new jockey for the Group 2 Furious Stakes, with Tommy Berry booked to ride the exciting filly in the second leg of the Princess Series.

James McDonald partnered the Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old to an impressive victory in Saturday's Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, but will switch to the returning Chayan in the Furious Stakes.

That has opened the door for the in-form Berry to take over aboard Pembrey as she continues her spring campaign.
