The Group 1 Manikato Stakes will have a maximum field of just 13 runners after the decision to move the Caulfield rail out to the 13-metre position.
The $2 million sprint had capacity for 16, meaning several leading contenders now face an anxious wait to secure a start, including Extragalactic, who is set to be ridden by James McDonald.
The change follows track issues at Caulfield on Saturday, when the rail was moved from seven metres to 11 metres shortly before the opening race following safety concerns from senior jockeys.

Metropolitan favoured for Aethelwulf
Trainer Matthew Smith is leaning towards keeping exciting stayer Aethelwulf in Sydney for the Group 2 Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick on October 3.
The alternative is the Group 3 Bart Cummings at Flemington on the same day, but no final decision has been made.
Aethelwulf is coming off an impressive Newcastle Gold Cup victory and continues to build towards bigger spring targets.
Sheza Alibi to tackle 2000m before Golden Eagle
Sheza Alibi will take an unusual route into the $10 million Golden Eagle, with Peter Moody confirming the star mare will step up to 2000m for her next start.
The brilliant Makybe Diva Stakes winner will contest the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield on October 10 before dropping back to 1500m for the Golden Eagle at Randwick three weeks later.
Moody believes the three-week break will provide ample time to freshen Sheza Alibi for the significant drop in distance.

Zac Lloyd will travel to Melbourne for Sunday's Group 1 meeting at Caulfield.
Among his key rides are Napoleonic in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Lara Antipova in the Stutt Stakes.

Concord Connie could be Stanley's special one
Young jockey Jett Stanley may have found a very good one in Charlotte Littlefield's exciting mare Concord Connie.
The four-year-old has won three of her four starts and more than $265,000, with Stanley forming a strong association with her after stepping in for the injured Rhys McLeod at Flemington in April.
That day Concord Connie came from last to win by an extraordinary six lengths. Stanley will be aboard again when she returns at Mornington on Saturday in a 1200m Benchmark 78 for mares.
Waller rethinking Aeliana's Melbourne Cup bid
Chris Waller is reconsidering whether Aeliana will tackle this year's Melbourne Cup after the star mare was allocated 58kg.
With Sir Delius not nominated, reigning champion Half Yours received the 59kg topweight, ahead of Light Infantry Man on 58.5kg, with Aeliana and Birdman both on 58kg.
Waller admitted the weight came as a surprise and believes it makes Aeliana's task significantly tougher.

The champion trainer will now reassess whether the Melbourne Cup remains the right target for his three-time Group 1-winning mare.
