CWR Review & Preview – Everest and Caulfield Cup special
Chris and Charlie are back for a massive edition of the CWR Review & Preview Show, looking ahead to one of the biggest weekends on the Australian racing calendar.
With The Everest at Randwick and the Caulfield Cup in Melbourne, the boys break down the major races ahead of a blockbuster Saturday. Watch the full show here:
Lindsay Park continues Debutant Stakes domination
Lindsay Park has continued its remarkable record in Caulfield's Listed Debutant Stakes, winning the juvenile feature for the ninth time in 27 years.
The victory also marked a third consecutive win in the race for trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes.
Promising filly Soldi ($3.80) held off the late challenge of favourite Royal Press, with Maalefushi finishing third. The stable will now decide whether Soldi continues towards further juvenile features or heads for a break.
"Whether she's had enough before Christmas or whether we go again, it's a decision we'll have to make," Hayes said.
John Sadler calls time on remarkable training career
Veteran trainer John Sadler will retire at the end of November, bringing the curtain down on a career spanning almost 50 years.
Sadler's journey began at Colac and took him through Flemington, Dubai, Singapore, Macedon Lodge and Caulfield before his final chapter at Pakenham.
"It's something I've been having a tug of war with in my own head for a couple of years now," Sadler said. His retirement will mark the end of one of Australian racing's longest-running training careers.
Ka Ying Rising draws wide in The Everest
Defending champion Ka Ying Rising will jump from barrier 11 of 12 in Saturday's $20 million Everest at Royal Randwick.
The Hong Kong superstar was a dominant $1.30 favourite heading into Tuesday night's spectacular barrier draw at Luna Park, with the wide gate doing little to shake market confidence.
Despite driving rain, the event delivered a memorable spectacle, with the barriers revealed on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Pride Of Jenni could head west
Champion mare Pride Of Jenni could make a surprise appearance in Western Australia later this year, with owner Tony Ottobre considering a tilt at the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) in December.
Ottobre revealed he would love to showcase his superstar to Perth racing fans, provided she continues to perform well through the spring.
"If she is going well, I'd love to take her there," Ottobre said. "I'd love the Western Australian racing people to see her."
Extragalactic saved for McEwen Stakes
Extragalactic will not accept for Saturday's racing, with trainer Trent Edmonds instead targeting the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at Flemington on Cox Plate Day, October 24.
Champion jockey James McDonald has been booked to ride the talented mare in the sprint feature.
