Wentworth Park farewell brought forward
One of greyhound racing's most iconic venues is set to close its doors earlier than expected, with Wentworth Park to host its final race meeting on Friday, October 16.
The historic Sydney track, home to greyhound racing for almost 94 years, will sign off with the running of the Million Dollar Chase, the world's richest greyhound race.
The closure comes a year ahead of schedule. From Saturday, October 17, Saturday night metropolitan racing will move to Gosford, before eventually transferring to Richmond from late 2027 until a new Sydney Metropolitan Racing Precinct is completed.
Much like Dapto's emotional farewell in 2025, Wentworth Park's final meeting promises to be a fitting celebration of one of the sport's most famous venues — and the Million Dollar Chase will be its final race.
Heinrich celebrates first Group 1
Trainer Korie-Lee Heinrich celebrated the biggest win of her career when Indy Melmen caused a major upset in Saturday night's Group 1 Maturity Classic at The Meadows.
The victory was both Indy Melmen's first Group race success and Heinrich's maiden Group 1 triumph after recently taking over the renowned Anakie training operation of her mother, Andrea Dailly, and partner Tom Dailly.
Earlier on the program, New South Wales trainer Jack Smith added another feature race to his resume when Magpie Hector stormed home to claim the Group 3 Fireball (730m).
Magpie Hector produced a perfectly timed finish to edge out fastest qualifier Amron Toy, recording the fourth Group race victory of his 42-start career.
