Cup Week kicks off with a massive Saturday at Flemington, featuring three Group 1s headed by the Victoria Derby, Coolmore Stud Stakes and Empire Rose Stakes. Meanwhile, Randwick stages the $10 million Golden Eagle, with a strong field of four-year-olds chasing one of Australian racing's richest prizes. We look at the key contenders across both meetings and where the early market support is heading.

Unhinged comes off consecutive wins and looks suited stepping to 1600m after finishing strongly at Rosehill. Mister Whiskers remains unbeaten following his narrow Caulfield victory over subsequent Group 2 winner True Rebel. Conquer The World was dominant leading throughout at Cranbourne, while Glenorchy and The Roaring Sun should appreciate the rise in distance after tempo-related excuses first-up.
Market mover: #6 Glenorchy has firmed from $15.00 into $11.00.
R2 – 1:00pm · TAB One Pool Vanity · 1400m · Group 3 · 3YO Fillies · SWP
Regal Ambition drops in grade after an excellent Thousand Guineas third, having previously won the Jim Moloney Stakes. Pin Up Sheila was strong through the line in the Reginald Allen and gets James McDonald aboard, while Affari was dominant breaking her maiden at Rosehill. Napoleonic drops in grade after contesting strong Group races, including a close second to Ninja in the Missile Stakes. Sweynesday was encouraging first-up over 1000m and should appreciate the extra distance, while Golden Straand brings promising Queensland form. Pericles rises to his preferred 1400m after two runs over shorter distances and has previously won at Group 1 level over this trip. St Gotthard brings strong Golden Rose form through Warwoven and is a full brother to former Coolmore winner Switzerland. Satono Glow has won both starts this preparation, while Natural Fling should ensure a strong tempo after previously matching up with The Next Episode.
Market: no significant moves since opening.
R7 – 4:20pm · Howden Victoria Derby · 2500m · Group 1 · 3YO · Set Weights
Cormier backs up from a strong third in the Spring Champion Stakes and looks suited by the rise to 2500m. Stormy Marco also comes through that race and gets James McDonald aboard, while Cignetti was unlucky not to win the Caulfield Classic. King Snitz took out that race, and Skua looks an improving stayer after finishing behind True Rebel last weekend. Barriers and race tempo will be crucial over the Derby trip.

A fascinating edition of the $10 million Golden Eagle featuring some of the country's leading four-year-olds. Beiwacht comes through a narrow Silver Eagle defeat after racing on speed, while Skyhook has continued his progression with two wins and a second this preparation. Apocalyptic arrives after winning the Silver Eagle, and Sheza Alibi brings outstanding Group 1 form against older horses.
